7 weeks and counting

But what is even better is only 9 ½ days of work to go! I’ve spaced out all my annual and sick leave so that the most I’m working is 2 days in a row for the first 2 days of Feb. The next 2 weeks are basically one day on, one day off. Brilliant.

Antennal classes were a blast. Much better than I expected and really worthwhile. I learnt more than I thought I would and there wasn’t any lingering on stuff I already new so it moved fast and was over before I knew it. Best bit about the class was a lovely YOUNG couple that were due a couple of days after the first of the 2 part Saturday classes. The proud father-to-be was a gem. He has a comment about everything and a question to follow. His best question was ‘does a woman’s bits go back to normal down there? Because it just looks like a gaping hole’ (we had just watched the birthing video). Then to answer the question put forth by the midwife taking the class – what does pregnancy do to a woman’s beasts? he answered ‘make them saggy’. Well by the time we had our 2nd class we found him weaving about the corridors of the hospital (on drugs or because of lack of sleep I don’t know), having just had a baby girl.

I’m really into altered art and whilst waiting for another maternity appointment at the hospital the other day, found Altered Art by Terry Taylor in the hospital bookshop. I already had his book The Altered Object and can now recommend both. I’ve decided that I just must get my brain in more of a creative mode so I’m making myself alter playing cards when I’m not working on a larger piece. I’ll post some photos of what I’ve managed to come up with so far just as soon as I remember to take some photos. Altered playing cards are not quite the size for ATC (artist trading cards) but I’m sure you could probably use them as such.
In other more depressing news I’ve worn through my lovely linen maternity trousers. In the thigh. I guess the stress of all that flesh rubbing madly together took its toll and my trousers have paid the ultimate price. Its now skirts for me until the end. I refuse to buy any others!
