Why does every maternity book I read say at about 13 weeks – don’t go and buy maternity clothes, wear some of your partner’s clothes instead.
Are they insane? The last thing I want is to go around looking like I’ve decided to take up cross-dressing. I feel fat and frumpy. Wearing men’s t-shirts and jeans would make me look…. You guessed it – fat and frumpy. Nick’s delightfully picked up and this and keeps offering me his clothes (and then runs away rather quickly). All I want is to find a couple of shirts long enough to cover the growing gap between the top of the pants and the bottom of my regular shirts. And is it too much to ask for those shirts to be well cut and nicely fitting? Something with stretch to bridge the gap until I’m large enough to need those tent like constructions of maternity wear? I went against advise and bought some maternity jeans at 9 weeks. I was so bloated and uncomfortable that I actually cried when I tried them on at the shop. I could sit down again without having to undo my entire fly! Granted after my nausea abated and with it the bloating, I could fit into my jeans again (just having to undo the top button when needing to sit or eat). But now my ‘preggie pants’ are a daily favourite. I must go out and buy some more before people realise that I’m wearing that same thing everyday.
